Nominations for MEUW Board of Directors due by end of this week: This Friday — April 26 — is the deadline to nominate interested individuals to serve on MEUW’s Board of Directors. This year’s election is for Directors and Alternate Directors in odd-numbered districts to serve a two-year term beginning May 17, 2019. 90th Annual Conference shaping up to be one you won’t want to miss: Public power leaders from across the state will gather in Delavan in May for MEUW’s 90th Annual Conference. The conference features a number of special guest speakers, nine different breakout sessions to choose from, numerous opportunities to network and a chance to celebrate our municipal utilities’ safety and operational achievements. An updated agenda, including details about recently confirmed speakers and new topics for the breakout sessions, is now available.
The conference will take place May 15 to 17 at Lake Lawn Resort. Wednesday, May 1, is the last day to take advantage of the “early bird” registration discount. Registration information is available here.

Consider joining MEUW’s S&E Committee: We are now looking to fill one or more anticipated vacancies on MEUW’s Safety and Education Committee. Excavation Workshop to be rescheduled: The three-day workshop focused on Excavation Safety that had been planned in early May at Waupun Utilities has been canceled. MEUW Staffing News: Greg Abresch has joined MEUW as a Regional Safety Coordinator. Greg has more than 10 years’ safety-related experience, including work supporting heavy highway, civil, wind energy, and underground utility construction. Most recently he was safety manager for KS Energy and previously worked for Michels Corp. where he was part of major projects including the I-41 expansion from Winnebago County to Brown County as well as the Zoo and Mitchell Interchange projects in Milwaukee. In his role with MEUW, Greg will provide safety services for entities in New Holstein, Kaukauna, Menasha, Sturgeon Bay and Two Rivers. Greg lives in Oshkosh with his wife and three daughters. He reports directly to Manager of Safety Services Mike Czuprynko and joins our team of safety professionals across the state. Greg can be reached by email at gabresch@meuw.org.
Leadership and Team Building training is June 5: Registration is now open for Session B of MEUW’s Management Training Program – focused on effective skills for leadership and team building – scheduled for Wednesday, June 5, in Marshfield.
The day-long session will explore the foundation of successful leadership, including a deep dive into the dynamics of leadership and how individuals can develop their team members regardless of where they are on their professional paths.
The program will be led by Dana Zurbuchen, an experienced speaker, trainer and entrepreneur who has worked with some of the largest brands in the region. This is her first time presenting to MEUW. Her straightforward style helps leaders elevate their organizations and create more effective teams.
MEUW’s Management Training Program provides education for existing managers, mid-level managers and future management prospects. Participants may start at any point in the six-session (A-F) program. MEUW awards certificates to all those who complete the program.

May 22 is Municipal Government and Utility Day at Capitol: All MEUW members are encouraged to participate in the Municipal Lobby Day on Wednesday, May 22. In partnership with the League of Wisconsin Municipalities and other trade associations, the gathering offers the opportunity to interact face-to-face with legislators in the state Capitol and at lunch. There is no cost to participate. The day begins at 9 a.m. and includes a legislative briefing before walking to the Capitol for legislative meetings. The day ends with lunch at Monona Terrace.
