MEUW Weekly :: April 23, 2024

Register now for MEUW’s Annual Conference next month: There’s still time is to register for this year’s Annual Conference in Marshfield before the “early bird” discount expires next week. You won’t want to miss the great agenda or the opportunity to connect with your colleagues from across the state. The Annual Conference will take place May 15–17 in Marshfield, with the bulk of the programming (and the awards ceremony) set for Thursday, May 16. You’re invited to attend as much or as little of the conference as your schedule allows. Join in the golf outing Wednesday morning, a tour of our host utility, Marshfield Utilities (MU) Wednesday afternoon, and then a welcome reception at MU on Wednesday evening, May 15. Registrations received by May 1 receive a $30 discount. Click here to learn more. Be sure to register no later than May 10.

Take time to thank a volunteer this week: April 21–27 is designated as National Volunteer Week, giving us a great opportunity to recognize the impact of volunteer service and the power of volunteers to build stronger communities. We know that many of our members give back in a variety of ways, including as volunteer firefighters and emergency responders. We also extend a special thanks to the members of MEUW’s Board of Directors members who volunteer their time and expertise to help deliver on the mission to unify and strengthen public power utilities. Thank you!

Improve your Communications and Project Management skills: Learn the important role of effective communications and project management skills for utility leaders. The next offering in MEUW’s professional development programming will be a one-day course that covers techniques for planning your time, prioritizing your obligations, and evaluating your success, as well as how to communicate clear instructions, and listen well for meaningful feedback. Held in Mauston on Wednesday, June 5, full details and registration are available here

Solar Seminar recorded session now available: Recognizing the increasing demand for solar power, it’s important for utility operators to understand how all those solar panels will impact their utility systems. MEUW recently presented an “Everything Solar Seminar” to explain the rules to follow, best practices, and important information to share with customers. The training was expertly led by Dave Krause, P.E. Portions of this training were recorded and are now available for those who were unable to attend in person. This seminar offers something for utility personnel of all skill levels and backgrounds. For information about individual or group purchase options, please call the MEUW Office at (608) 837-2263.

In case you missed it, we celebrated National Lineman Day April 18! Together, MEUW member utilities employ more than 300 linemen across Wisconsin and we were glad to use the day to share our appreciation for all that they do. As they say, “when the lights go out, so do they.” MEUW used the day to showcase public power line crews through social media sites. You can keep up on MEUW member activities by following MEUW on X (formerly Twitter), and by liking and subscribing to MEUW’s Facebook, LinkedIn, and You Tube pages.

Don’t miss out on our member communications: MEUW uses Mailchimp to distribute mass emails to members, including MEUW Weekly and Live Lines. In an effort to outsmart spammers, some e-mail servers may occasionally mark messages from Mailchimp as “spam” or “junk.” If you or a co-worker aren’t receiving emails from MEUW, please check your “spam” or “junk” folder and set your settings to receive messages from @meuw.org.

If you’d like to keep safety top-of-mind and receive our regular Safety Reminder emails, send us an email request.
