In case you missed it, we celebrated National Lineman Day April 18! Together, MEUW member utilities employ more than 300 linemen across Wisconsin and we were glad to use the day to share our appreciation for all that they do. As they say, “when the lights go out, so do they.” MEUW used the day to showcase public power linecrews through social media via MEUW’s Twitter, You Tube and Facebook sites. We featured Gresham Utilities’ Eddie Gibbs as he shared his perspectives on 40 years as a lineman — check out his story, which was covered on local news. To see the faces of many of the hardworking public power crews, look here.

Changes to MEUW Board of Directors: The Executive Committee of MEUW’s Board of Directors recently approved two appointments, for terms that will end at the Annual Meeting next month. Board Chair Rick Wicklund appointed Shawn Kuester of Elroy as District 5 Alternate Director to fill a vacancy created by the retirement of David Bekkum of Cashton. Likewise, Ed Hoff of Brodhead was appointed as District 9 Alternate Director to complete the unfinished term recently vacated.

Elections for Directors and Alternate Directors in odd-numbered districts are currently underway. Instructions have been provided to a contact at utilities impacted. Voting closes on May 5, and the results will be announced at the association’s Annual Business Meeting on May 12.

Celebrate Earth Month with Focus on Energy. April is Earth month and Focus on Energy has added a Focus on the Earth section to their website which includes information on various community Earth Month events around the state, energy efficiency tips and lists the 2023 Energy Efficiency Excellence Award winners.
