Register now for Annual Conference — before “early bird” discount ends: Public power leaders from across the state will gather in downtown Madison for MEUW’s 92nd Annual Conference in May. The event features a number of special guest speakers, a variety of breakout sessions, numerous opportunities to network, and the chance to celebrate our municipal utilities’ achievements. Official conference events take place May 11-13, with visits to the State Capitol and meetings with state legislators planned for Thursday, May 12. This year’s conference kicks off with a visit and picnic lunch at the host utility (Waunakee) beginning at 10 a.m. on Wednedsday, May 11. The complete conference agenda and registration information are available here.

The deadline to take advantage of the “early bird” discount is May 1. Also, check out the event website for details about a pre-conference golf outing on Tuesday, May 10, and plans for organized evening activities on Thursday, May 12. Questions should be directed to Mallory Conradt at (608) 478-2528 or (608) 469-6009.

Sign up now for June 1 management training session:  Managing Personnel Matters is the subject for the next session in MEUW’s Management Training Program – scheduled as an in-person training on Wednesday, June 1, in Wisconsin Dells. The one-day session will be led by Attorney Steve Zach of Boardman Clark law firm. Among the topics to be covered are hiring and selection, discipline, discrimination, and harassment. Complete details about the subject matter and a biography of the instructor are available here.

First Aid/CPR+AED/Bloodborne Pathogen training to be offered in June: MEUW is holding a half-day training class to allow individuals to complete adult First Aid/CPR+AED/Bloodborne Pathogen certification. The training is targeted to municipalities who do not participate in MEUW’s Regional Safety Program, and satisfies a requirement of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) that an employer ensure prompt first aid treatment for injured employees. The class will be taught at MEUW’s office in Sun Prairie on Wednesday, June 8. Full details are available here.

Don’t miss out on our member communications: MEUW now uses Mailchimp to distribute mass emails to members, including MEUW Weekly and Live Lines. In an effort to outsmart spammers, some e-mail servers may occasionally mark messages from Mailchimp as “spam” or “junk.” If you or a co-worker aren’t receiving emails from MEUW, please check your “spam” or “junk” folder and set your settings to receive messages from @meuw.org.

Save the date for annual Accounting and Customer Service Seminar: MEUW’s gathering of municipal utility accounting and customer service folks is planned for Wednesday, Sept. 28, at The Lodge At Mauston. The annual one-day seminar offers updates on regulatory and legislative issues that affect member utilities and provides attendees a chance to network and discuss best practices to improve their operations. A complete agenda and more details will be communicated this summer.

Start spreading the news: We’d like to share your utility’s news with other MEUW members. Please take time to let us know about new hires, promotions, retirements, honors, and awards. Simply send an email to news@meuw.org. We will review and include it in our member communications.
