PSC staff to visit Shawano for Municipal Utility Field Day: MEUW and Shawano Municipal Utilities are finalizing plans to host a group of staffers from the Public Service Commission next month. The “Municipal Utility Field Day” on Tuesday, July 16, is organized to help continue strengthening relations between public power and our state regulators. A similar event was held in Richland Center last summer.

Attendees at this year’s “field day” will receive an introductory overview of municipal electric utilities and the advantages of public power, followed by a tour of various facilities and a visit to a customer site in the City of Shawano. The event allows the public power community to showcase municipal utilities and help build awareness of our unique service model, record of reliability and dedication to meeting and exceeding customers’ expectations.

Neighboring utilities are invited to attend the event and interact with PSC staff. If you’re interested in learning more, please contact the MEUW Office at (608) 837-2263.

Notes from recent association meetings are online: Draft minutes from two recent MEUW meetings are now online and available at the links below.

  • MEUW held its Annual Business Meeting on May 17 in Delavan in conjunction with the association’s 90th Annual Conference.
  • The Executive Committee of MEUW’s Board of Directors held a regular meeting on June 6.

The next regular meeting of MEUW’s Board of Directors is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 12.  For an up-to-date listing of MEUW Board members, click here.

Start spreading the news: We’d like to share your utility’s news with other MEUW members. Please take time to let us know about new hires, promotions, retirements, honors and awards. Simply send an email to news@meuw.org. We will review and include it in our member communications.

Be sure your utility submits data for 2019 Wage & Benefits Survey:  Just one week after the data-collection period opened, 18 utilities have already submitted their responses to the MEUW’s annual Wage & Benefits Survey. All MEUW member utilities have received instructions to complete the survey tool, which is due by July 26.

Based on member feedback, this year’s survey includes several new questions and re-ordered sections to make it easier to complete. Only those utilities that provide information for the survey will receive a copy of the results when they are distributed in mid-August.

As an added incentive and encourage early responses, we will hold two random drawings to award prizes to those who respond to this year’s survey.

If you have questions about the Wage & Benefits Survey, please contact Tim Heinrich at (608) 478-0998.

We need your input:  We’re considering offering Hotline School sessions this coming September and would like to gauge members’ interest in sending employees to attend one of the two-day sessions.

Day One would be 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Day Two is 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Two separate training sessions are planned – in Green Bay on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 16 and 17 and in Fennimore on Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 18 and 19.

Please take 30 seconds to reply to this poll.
