MEUW Weekly :: October 18, 2022

Leadership workshop planned for Nov. 2: MEUW is hosting another one-day workshop to focus on skills considered foundational to helping a leader inspire positive change and empower others to achieve common goals. This workshop will focus on communications, empathy, and attitude as essential leadership qualities.

The “Developing Essential Leadership Skills” session is beneficial for both emerging and seasoned leaders. The lessons apply to all types of municipal leaders, not just those who work in the electric utility. Registration is open to anyone from a MEUW member community. Training is planned for Wednesday, Nov. 2, at The Lodge At Mauston. Full details and registration information are available here.

There’s still time to complete the Public Power Week word search for a chance to win: In recognition of the annual celebration of Public Power Week held earlier this month, MEUW included a word search puzzle in the October edition of Live Lines. All 81 cities and villages in Wisconsin that own and operate their own electric utility are hidden in the puzzle. Anyone who correctly finds all 81 of our public power communities in the word search can return their completed puzzle for a chance to win a prize. The puzzle can be downloaded here. The deadline to submit your entry is 5 p.m. on Oct. 31.

How did you celebrate Public Power Week?  We’re planning to include a wrap up of last week’s Public Power Week events in the next edition of Live Lines. Utilities are encouraged to share details about how they marked the occasion and provide any photos by sending an email to news@meuw.org by Oct. 25.

It’s District Dinner season for MEUW members:  Getting members together for dinner and networking is a time-honored MEUW tradition. Five more dinners (in Black River Falls, Cashton, Mazomanie, Cuba City, and Johnson Creek) are planned across the state over the next four weeks. MEUW members are welcome to attend whichever scheduled dinner is most convenient (whether it is in their district or not). Each dinner begins with a cash bar at 6 p.m. and dinner at 6:30, followed by a brief program. Pre-registration is required. MEUW will bill the utility for the dinner after each event takes place. Full details are available here.

MEUW planning 95th birthday celebration one year from today: Acknowledging that municipal utilities deserve the chance to stand out, MEUW plans to host “Public Power on Parade” when we mark the 95th anniversary of the association’s founding on Oct. 18, 2023. The occasion promises to be a prime opportunity to draw attention to our member utilities and the special nature of public power. The planned event centers around a convoy of municipal electric utility trucks making their way down East Washington Avenue and then circling the Capitol Square in Madison. The plans were unveiled during the opening of the Annual Conference this past May. A video promoting the 2023 celebration is available here. Full details will be communicated to MEUW members in the coming months.
