Registration for Electric Operations Conference & Expo opens tomorrow: Once each year, municipal and electric cooperative employees come together to network and learn about important topics impacting utility operations. MEUW and the Wisconsin Electric Cooperative Association (WECA), along with the Wisconsin Utility Suppliers Association (WUSA), will hold the 2024 Electric Operations Conference & Expo at the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells on Jan. 10, 11, and 12. Employees at all levels are welcome and encouraged to attend this year’s event, which features a full agenda with a great lineup of speakers and breakout sessions on a wide variety of important and relevant topics.
Again this year, three types of registration passes — labeled as Kilowatt, Megawatt, and Gigawatt — are available to accommodate those who wish to attend only part of the three-day event. Those most interested in the Expo (trade show), for example, will want to purchase a Megawatt pass, which offers access to the Wednesday Welcome Reception and Thursday’s conference sessions, meals, and the Expo. MEUW members who register by Dec. 15 can get a Megawatt pass for $200. A special pass is also available for retired public power workers who like to attend because they want to stay connected to former colleagues and have interest in keeping up with changes in the electric industry.
Full details about the event — including the complete conference agenda and information about the Apprentice Graduation Banquet — are available here.
Don’t forget to share your Public Power Week celebrations. We’re planning to include a wrap up of October’s Public Power Week events in the next edition of Live Lines. Utilities are encouraged to share details about how they marked the occasion and provide any photos by sending an email to news@meuw.org by Oct. 31.
Improve your leadership skills through Coaching class: Join fellow utility leaders on Wednesday, Dec. 6 in Mauston for Leading Through Coaching. As part of MEUW’s professional development programming, we’re offering a one-day leadership development course focused on the importance of effective coaching as an essential leadership skill for utility leaders. Participants will take away practical ideas they can apply to setting a good example and becoming a leader who gets the most from others. Click here for more information and to register.

Enroll today in an Underground Facility Locating Workshop. This one-day workshop is designed to cover the National Utility Locating Contractors Association (NUCLA) Professional Competency Standard Manual Units 1-3. Material is first covered in the classroom and then applied in the field. Attendees learn locator theory, how to use a transmitter and receiver, how to overcome common obstacles, and how to evaluate difficult situations encountered in the field. Full details are available here.
Two dates are available: Thursday, March 14 in Marshfield, and Tuesday, March 19 in Two Rivers. Register for the one that work best for you.
The Executive Committee of MEUW’s Board of Directors held a regular meeting on Oct. 4 via Teams. The draft minutes of their discussions are here (member log-in required).
